How to write on photos

As many of you liked my editing article, and I'm so glad you did, today I'm gonna reveal all my little secrets on how to write on photos.
If you ever scrolled my Insta page you surely noticed that I love writing quotes on top of photos and I get asked so many times about how I do it, what apps I use, where I find the quotes... Today I'm gonna finally answer all those questions.

First of all, we need to choose a good photo, you can't write a quote on any picture you have: writing on photos isn't just write any quote on, you have to find a way to type a text on it without hiding the beauty of the pic.

If the photo has different details and objects, then writing on it probably isn't  a good idea, you're gonna hide some details that will take off part of your beautiful photo.
Try to find a photo that is composed of different things that have similar shades of colours, for example, a shot with trees and grass, or a sunset at the beach or even just a beautiful sky with lots of clouds.

Another type of writing on photos is the one with people in the picture, this one is probably a bit harder to do just cause you probably don't wanna hide the figure, and at the same time, you want the quote to pop up: what I personally suggest is to try to write the quote around the person, don't write on it, that way you're making every part of the photo important in the same way.

So, now that we know what kind of photo we wanna write on, we need to find a good quote.
Personally, most of the quotes I use are from Pinterest. As I said in my previous article about How to get a good Instagram Theme, I'm addicted to that app. Normally I search for "deep quotes" or "inspirational quotes" and scroll till I find the best one that will be good for the photo I have.
Check my Pinterest here if you're in lack of inspiration, I have a quote board!
Sometimes I even write all the quotes that I think are good in a notebook so that I can just check there next time I'll need one.
If you don't have Pinterest, Google is a great alternative.
Another question I get asked a lot is "Should I edit a photo that I will write a quote on?", my answer is always yes! I don't know if it's just me, but editing is an important part of having a good picture.
If you wanna know how I edit my photos you can check my last blog post here.

We finally have a beautiful photo, a good quote that will match the picture and we've edited the pic, now we just need to mix the two together in an awesome way. To do it we have two different options we can choose from: you can write with apps on your phone or use a computer.
So, if you're a computer lover and you think that you can adjust better the quotes using your pc you can definitely do it.

One option is the famous Photoshop
Photoshop is an amazing program not only for editing but for writing too. To do it you'll need a bit of practice and, of course, Photoshop. This computer software costs 25 euros per month and you can easily buy it on the Adobe Photoshop site.

If you don't want to spend money, you can still write on photos by using a good writing site. The best free option I found is Be Funky. This site has many fonts you can choose from, stickers, effects and it's totally free.

Writing on photos using a computer takes time tho, you don't have your laptop with you every time!
Fortunately, there are a lot of apps that make writing easy and awesome even just from your phone.

One of those is Snapseed, yes the Google editing app. You'll just need to click on tools and search for the text option and you're good to go, choose a text style and write your quote.

Another option that, unfortunately, is only for IOS users is Studio Design, this app is personally my favourite one. I started using it since the late 2014 and I'm still loving it so much! Most of my quote photos are made with this app.
You can design your own quote by using the tools it gives you (and there are a lot of options!) or just do a remix. The remix session is well organised: the different quotes are divided into categories and that makes everything easier. If you like the quote but you don't think it suits well the photo you can still change the colours or the dimension of it before saving it into your phone.

If you're an Android user and you're a bit disappointed, don't worry I got you covered. Phonto is a
good option, unfortunately, some fonts aren't free

Fan of the fancy fonts? Great news there's a new app called AppforType where you can find your paradise. This app is available for IOS and Android users. You can choose between different texts, change colour and even erase part of the text if you want to, the only inconvenience is that you can't write your own text because it's not free, you'll need to buy the fonts you like if you want to do it.

Last but not least if you want to write a text and do a collage of photos at the same time, without using different apps, you can download April. This app, by a Chinese developer, has amazing reviews and it will make your collages so professional.

Well, now you know everything about how to write on photos just remember to have fun, play with different fonts on the same picture ( Don't be afraid to experiment new things!), play with colours, shapes, stickers and get creative!
